Description:

Underneath the glass-and-metal ceiling and walls of the Garfield Park Conservatory verdant gardens of exotic plants bloom. In the Horticulture Hall, beautiful flowering plants are seasonally displayed while the Sweet House exhibits the plants that render some of the world's most delicious treats, such as the cacao tree and vanilla plant. Especially designed for children, the Elizabeth Morse Genius Children's Garden intermingles brightly colored and sweet-smelling plants with carefully crafted educational displays and intriguing artistic features. Expansive outdoor gardens display plants suited to Illinois' climate, including an informative Demonstration Garden. Covering the northern portion of Garfield Park, the conservatory is a few miles directly west of the Loop downtown district.
