Really awful experience

Posted by tangobabe on 5/21/2008

We had received good reports about the food & atmosphere & on the recommendation of a colleague we organized a work function here. We were terribly unhappy at the way we were treated. There were about 40 of us jammed into a function room for 20, leaving no comfortable space for presentations & awards. It was awful. The sound system didn't work properly, either. And to add salt into the wound, they'd shifted us from a larger adjacent space to host an impromptu (and much smaller) party, even though we'd had a reservation for many weeks & had confirmed the larger space on the day before our function. This party next door was ridiculously LOUD and we couldn't comfortably do our business. The food was good, albeit VERY far behind the schedule agreed to. The wait staff were efficient. The margaritas were nice. As a finally parting gift: there was only ONE valet to perform the valet service for the entire restaurant meaning a long line & wait outside. And one of our party got stiffed for the complimentary valet parking too. And downstairs the place was nearly empty. What gives? Although I've eaten there many times I will definitely NOT be returning. There are many better places with this type of cuisine (Las Palmas & Cuatro) who know a thing or two about service that this place seems to have forgotten.

If you're hosting a party, go somewhere else.

We heard great reviews about the food, and even took the respected advice of a colleague to have a department function at Adobo Grill in Wicker Park. We could not have been more disappointed. We had an agreement with the restaurant for a room that would comfortably host our group of 40 for a recognition dinner complete with a keynote speaker. On the day of the event -- unbeknownst to us -- Adobo Grill moved us into the room for groups of 20 or less so that they could host another event simultaneously. A tequila tasting party complete with music, of all things! They did not serve the food (which was good, perhaps the only high point of the evening) on time. The valet service lost one of our guest's cars. And after all of that, they refused to comp the cost of the valet for the host of the evening's event stating, "The bill has been settled. You'll have to pay for that on your own." Think twice about hosting an event at Adobo. They have no awareness of what it takes to host a nice event.

Horrible

I went in to this restaurant because I was told "OH MY GOD ITS THE BEST." I took my fiance and my mom with me. It was a Saturday evening we had no reservation but they were able to sit us almost immediately. The drinks were decent at best. To be honest I have had much better drinks at other places (i.e. Cuatro and Mambo Grill and My Home). We ordered the Guacamole and that I have to say was the best part of the meal. It was delicious. But that is were it all ended. The rest of the eating experience was about to turn sour. None of us were able to finish our meals. We all just hated them. I had the Camaron Centli and as soon as I saw the plate even before I tasted it I was like "what is this nasty looking thing." My mom had the Pechuga Azteca and all she could bare to eat was the re-heated rice they served. My finace well she was just a bit pleased with her meal, I say that because she was able to eat ONE of the enchiladas de pollo(chicken). The tortillas that they served were cold and hard. I mean it was just a bad experience. I paid for three people to eat and all that was eaten from three seperate plates was a bit of rice, five shrimp and one enchilada. Very Disapointed We ended up going to Cuatro for desserts and a few more drinks after we left Adobo Grill Robert

great service, great atmosphere, great food!

My boyfriend and I visited this restaurant a couple of weeks ago, and were pleasantly surprised, given the mediocre Best Of rating. The food was very good, although rather small portion sizes. The margaritas were plenty strong, and we even got a couple of shots-worth extra when one of the glasses wasn't quite full! The staff was very attentive and gave helpful advice on the menu. We didn't try the guacamole, but will be sure to the next time we visit.
